As long as I’ve been working in my path some of the reactions I receive when people discover the psi aspect of my life never cease to amaze me. Now to be fair I do have a very strong personality and presence and am assured of what I do; however I love exploring the concepts and ideas of others as well. I am quite open regarding my involvement with psi and with the Psi Palatium Community itself, but it doesn’t always come up in conversation so some people stumble onto that area of my life accidentally. Most people Online know me only through my work with psi. Offline however I come across much more scientific due to my educational background and business dealing in computer and business consulting. This Offline desync with my Online persona is what catches some people off guard when they realize what constitutes a huge portion of my life (and actually is my life base).

I’ve experienced negative reactions, skepticism and shock and awe however the vast majority of people that I deal with Offline (friends and otherwise) suddenly will open up and gush forth info to me. I still find it amusing that a good 95% of the people that realize what I do with psi will feel as if they’ve suddenly found someone that won’t think they’re crazy for their own feelings, and experiences. When people discover my involvement with psi for the first time I can generally count on one of two initial reactions. The first reaction is the person that will confirm it with me, go confirm it with other friends of mine and then return at a later time to ask questions and talk about psi. The other reaction is much more fun where a person will realize what I do in psi and then launch directly into a conversation regarding their experiences etc while hoping to tap into feedback from me.

For those of you wondering about the negative reactions - yes I’ve had a few. Many years ago, before I started my company, some co-workers of mine from a certain religious background were quite horrified to learn of my involvement with psi. My co-workers were quite convinced that their Holy texts forbid psi outright and that made me quite a bad person. Now this could have been a bad situation since I was technically their Team Leader, but instead we talked about it and I asked them to talk with their religious leader regarding psi and that we could even all get together and discuss what was and was not acceptable. So after openly discussing the issues (meeting with religious leaders) and generally being open and honest about drawing parallels between the differing aspects of their lives and religion and my own we came to a mutual understanding and common ground where everyone was quite happy. I ended up learning a lot about their religion and so did they. Was it a negative experience in the end? No, but it started out that way. To be perfectly honest I’ve never had anyone outright walk away from me for my involvement with psi.

What brought all this on? Last night I was fixing a friend of my in-law’s computer. I’ve known her through my in-law’s for many years and while testing out Internet speeds and connectivity I tend to bounce back and forth to different pages on the Palatium website simply because I know how fast each page should load. After hitting up the Palatium website a few time she commented that it seemed like an interesting site. I proceeded to explain about the Palatium and my involvement after which she took to reaction #2. It was a great conversation that she actually got her son in on and we’ve scheduled a session with a group of hers that is just beginning to wonder what their dreams mean (a recent discussion — how convenient is that timing?).

You just never know where the next corner will take you (well, you do if you’re psychic because it’s like having a GPS but that’s kind of like cheating too isn’t it? Guess we’ll have to wait for the Art of Psychic Readings to see)

I often take time to visit other communities and talk with members/staff to both share and commune, so I thought I’d write a little note about it. A note here is that in the last several years groups like the Palatium have come to be referred to as Online Energy Communities (OEC).

Since before the Psi Palatium existed there have been communities, or gathering places for people interested in psi. Some communities are specifically for magick, others for psychics, wiccans, pagans, spiritualists, herbalists, etc etc etc. The breadth of communities runs from the fringe new-age to almost (yes, almost) scientific in nature. I’ve seen a lot of Online (and Offline) communities come and go in the time that the Psi Palatium has been around. In fact many smaller groupings often merge to create larger pools of people, but then end up failing because of discontent between administrators. There are some communities that have survived a good long time like the Guild, or Veritas and of course there was Psipog before it was archived. While the Palatium has an extremely large readership (and membership before it was discontinued last year), and both the Guild and Veritas have large populations we all cater to different groups of people. Psipog itself boasted thousands of members before it was shuttered. In the earlier days of the Palatium the memberships actually shared out and often moved around between communities a lot; however over the years I’ve found that happening less as people tend to stick with one place (though this isn’t a hard and fast rule). Recently (and I mean over the last several years) many new communities have cropped up and are now in the process of changes and merges.

What I have noticed over the years is a pull by the younger generations, and newer communities away from standard “psychic” towards a more hybridized form of psi, which they have come to refer to as psionics. It is my understanding that psionics is simply the study of psi in a less spiritual manner. My observations have been that things like psychic readings, tarot, and the other mainstream psychic talents are maligned for the more interesting and less advertised things like “psi balls” (which you’ll always see me refer to as spheres - I’m old school that way), psychokinesis, and several of the other flashy techniques. This is not meant to say that psionics is incorrect in focus, but I have difficultly because of my training and experience not to tie psi in with understanding and exploration of the self. Understand yourself and understand psi. So what of psionics then? I fear it is a limiting view point and that people are being exposed to a pond of possibilities when they should have an ocean. I also fear the incorrect immersion into psi through avenues that can lead to harm. But, there is a place for all of this.

Newer generations tend to dislike greatly the amount of responsibility the Psi Palatium puts on your shoulders. Instead they seem to prefer the immediacy and relative subjectivity of psionics communities. This may shy younger people away from the Psi Palatium; however it allows them to learn some of the techniques and possibilities. As people age they hopefully begin to understand patience and the necessity of responsibility and if they are still interested in psi will explore towards the Palatium and what it is our community offers. So, the old ways need the new ways to survive and the new ways rely on the old ways in order to continue. A very good balance if I do say so myself.

And if you’re interested this is why PsionicsOnline is the Psi Palatium’s affiliate site. They offer what we do not, and we offer what they do not. A very nice one to one relationship.
